When hyaluronidase is injected directly into the target area, it breaks down these chemical bonds, accelerating the body's natural breakdown of the gel.
Because hyaluronidase specifically targets hyaluronic acid, it is effective against popular HA filler families (such as Juvéderm®, Restylane®, and Belotero®). It cannot dissolve non-HA fillers (such as Sculptra® or Radiesse®). By strategically placing this enzyme, our providers can either achieve a complete reversal or make precise, localized adjustments without affecting surrounding tissue.
Your appointment begins with a thorough evaluation of your facial structure and previous filler history. Our providers carefully palpate and map out the areas of migration, asymmetry, or overfilling.
To ensure safety, a minor skin allergy test may be performed prior to treatment to rule out hypersensitivity to the enzyme. Once cleared, a topical numbing agent is applied for comfort. Who Should Avoid
Individuals with a known severe allergy to hyaluronidase or bee/wasp venom (as cross-reactivity can exist). Patients who received non-hyaluronic acid fillers cannot be treated with hyaluronidase. Pregnant or nursing women should postpone elective dissolving procedures.
Because hyaluronidase actively breaks down tissue volume, localized swelling is a normal and expected part of the immediate post-procedure response.
Apply cold compresses intermittently to manage initial swelling. Avoid pressing firmly on the treated area, strenuous workouts, saunas, and alcohol for 24 to 48 hours. Moderate swelling, redness, localized tenderness, and minor bruising are common. Swelling typically peaks within 24 hours and dissipates over 3 to 5 days.
While hyaluronidase works instantly, post-treatment swelling can initially mask your final outcome. The majority of the breakdown occurs within the first 24 to 48 hours, with final, settled results visible around 10 to 14 days post-injection as localized swelling completely resolves.
Once the enzyme has finished its work, your treated tissue returns to its natural baseline state. If you are dissolving previous filler in order to start fresh, we recommend waiting 2 full weeks after your dissolving appointment before placing new dermal filler. This buffer allows native tissue to heal and ensures the injected hyaluronidase has completely dissipated so it won't break down your new filler.

Hyaluronidase breaks down both injected HA gel and a small amount of your skin's native hyaluronic acid in the immediate area. However, your body naturally synthesizes its own hyaluronic acid rapidly, fully restoring native tissue hydration within 24 to 48 hours.
Patients may feel a mild stinging or burning sensation as the hyaluronidase breaks down the gel. We apply a prescription-strength topical numbing cream prior to treatment and can blend local anesthetics into the solution to ensure a smooth, comfortable experience.
We advise waiting at least 14 days after a hyaluronidase appointment before receiving new dermal fillers. This guarantees that all residual dissolving enzymes have cleared the tissue and allows swelling to resolve so your provider can place new filler on an accurate foundation.
No. Hyaluronidase only works on hyaluronic acid fillers (such as Juvéderm®, Restylane®, and Belotero®). Biostimulatory agents such as Sculptra® (poly-L-lactic acid) and Radiesse® (calcium hydroxylapatite) cannot be dissolved with hyaluronidase and must break down naturally over time.
